Working Together–Staying Connected

It is important to work together in your marriage. There may be times when you disagree with your spouse, or times when you seem to constantly be going different directions. For example when my husband was in graduate school, the majority of his time was focused on school, and the majority of my time was focused on our family. However we were still able to work together by talking and staying connected on Sundays. Now that he works, we still work on staying connected and working together on our family.

One way that you can continue to work together, even when you have different sets of responsibilities is to communicate on a regular basis. One great way to do this is to have a planning meeting each week. This can happen on Sunday nights. You simply discuss the upcoming events in the week, and schedule responsibilities. You should also discuss any concerns you may be having with a particular child or disciple problems. You can also discuss topics for family home evening lessons.

Another great way to continue to work together is to make sure that you are working towards the same goals. You may want to write up a mission statement for your family or marriage, and then see how your priorities fit into the goals that you have for your family. This is a great way to weigh the importance of the activities that you are striving to complete as a family.

Finally it is vital that you stay connected by continuing to court each other. Weekly date nights are a great way to stay connected to each other. It is hard to work together if you barely know the person that you are working with. If you allow yourself to drift apart, you won’t have the strength you need to get through the really difficult times in your relationship.
