The only belly dancing I have been doing lately is wiggling my way into a pair of jeans. I never considered belly dancing as a workout. I certainly never thought I would be actually belly dance, much less in my living room, blinds shut with only my dog to witness it. However, sometimes what you never expect does happen. I did find myself in my living room, blinds shut with only the dog around as I popped in a workout DVD called Step by Step Belly Dance. I was hesitant. I felt stupid. Mostly felt stupid because I look nothing like the beautiful woman on the cover. However, I encourage you to get past feeling awkward to let loose and have some fun burning calories. You have to burn the calories anyway, right?
The beautiful woman on the cover is Leilainia and she is a second-generation dancer. She teaches yoga and belling dancing in San Diego, California. In addition, she performs with her husband and sister and won several awards. Her dance team even won the Ultimate Troupe at the Hips of Fury belling dance competition in 2006 and the People’s Choice Bellydancer of the Universe in 2007. So, Leilainia is the perfect teacher to introduce you to belly dancing.
Now, I never plan to win a Hips of Fury contest or become the bellydancer of the universe. However, working out can be boring. Sometimes you need to break things up a bit from your regular routine. It’s fun to have a program that challenges you to learn something new and burn fat. It keeps you interested and allows you to have fun. Don’t be intimidated. The DVD provides a tutorial and then you can try out one of three 15 minute dance routines. So get your hips moving and blast off some fat!
