Technically, 5-year-old Suman Khatun hasn’t been officially crowned the world’s heaviest preschooler, but she is well on her way… to eating herself to death.
The West Bengal preschooler has made headlines around the world for her inability to satisfy her hunger.
According to reports, the 42-inch girl, who tops the scales at a whopping 168 pounds, consumes more calories in a single day than most kids her age do in a month.
In an average week Suman devours nearly 25 pounds of rice, 24 eggs, 11 pounds of potatoes, and seven jumbo size bags of BBQ potato chips. She washes down her carbs with more than 2 gallons of milk and 3 gallons of orange soda per week.
The girl’s mother says her young daughter is also partial to banana bread (she puts away about two loaves in one sitting) and butter.
Suman’s mother, Belly Bibi, says she is speaking out about her daughter’s ravenous eating habits because the family can no longer afford to feed the girl.
Suman’s parents reportedly make less than $10 per week, and much of their income has been going to purchase food for their obese daughter.
Belly Bibi recently told news reporters:
“We can not feed ourselves or our other two children, let alone ourselves. When Suman is not fed she cries, shouts, screams and has even thrown rocks at us. We give her four square meals a day and two small lunches, but this is never enough. She is our daughter and we have no choice but to feed her.”
Really? Even if all that food is killing her?
According to the girl with the bottomless stomach’s doctor, Suman is likely suffering from a pituitary disorder, but for some reason he doesn’t have the ability to diagnose the disease himself. What’s more, Suman’s parents say they cannot afford to travel to Calcutta for expert medical treatment for their daughter because the kid’s excessive eating has crippled their finances.
So while Suman’s parents continue to give into their young daughter’s gorging, the girl has almost gotten to the point where she can no longer walk. Suman’s mother says her daughter suffers from severe respiratory problems and leg pain, and cries herself to sleep each night.
I’m not an expert financial planner, but I would suggest the family reduce their food spending and use the money to get Suman help. It’s not as though she is going to starve to death while the money for medical treatment accumulates.
Hmmm… let’s see… put up with a screaming, crying kid who throws rocks as part of her tantrum or watch her eat herself to death?
