While this is not a Disney specific title – it is actually quite exciting and being a huge fan of the game, I wanted to share with you the latest updates that will be released in the new Monopoly: Here & Now Edition. More than 3 million people voted on the game highlights that included replacing the Boardwalk with New York’s Time Square and Park Place with Boston’s Fenway Park.
There are multiple Monopoly games out there including versions for Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings, but this version takes into account what the game would be like if it were created today instead of in 1935. The original version is based on the 1935 Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Okay, so why are we talking about Monopoly’s Here and Now version here in the Disney Blog? Because Orlando’s Disney World earned the votes to land it the coveted red spot formerly known as Illinois Avenue. As you may remember, Illinois is one of the most frequently landed on spots in the original game of Monopoly so it makes sense that Orlando’s Disney World would do the same in the Here & Now version.
Personally, I’m Excited
Maybe I am just a kid at heart, but it’s a lot of fun to see more about this game and the 22 new properties that include everything from the Los Vegas Strip to Disney World to the Johnson Space Center and Dallas’ own Texas Stadium as properties. The railroads are now airports, the chance cards include winning $100,000 for staring on a reality television series and much, much more.
The game will be officially released on September 14 – that’s tomorrow. I think it’s a great gift idea for the Disney lovers (although there is the Disney Princess Edition Monopoly and Disney Monopoly that my daughter already has) and Monopoly lovers alike. It’s already on my Christmas list.
Oh, and one more thing, the tokens in the game include:
- Toyota Prius
- McDonald’s French Fries
- Motorola RAZR cell phone
- Airplane
- Labrapoodle
- Laptop Computer
- New Balance running shoe
Monopoly really does have something for everyone. Wouldn’t you like a chance to own Disney World?
