I like time savers and money savers, but I like to feed my family wholesome, home cooked meals. This one covers all the bases. I especially like this because I can prepare it in the morning, forget about it, and have it ready for dinner. Pot roast is great because you can usually get a nice beef roast for about $5 and easily feed five hungry adults and then some!
Here is what you’ll need:
Beef Roast
3 Tablespoons Butter
6 Cups Water
5 Large Potatoes
2 Cups Frozen Baby Carrots
1 Medium Onion or dry Minced Onion
Crushed Garlic or Garlic Powder
6 Beef Bouillon Cubes
Crock Pot
Large Frying Pan
Here is how to do it in 15 minutes or less:
1. Line crock pot with slow cooker liner.
2. Heat frying pan on high heat and melt butter. Add beef roast. Cook each side of the roast enough to brown it slightly. (You’re searing the roast to lock the juices and flavor in.)
3. Place seared roast in crock pot.
4. Cut potatoes in half and add to crock pot.
5. Cut onion in half and then each half into quarters. Add to crock pot.
6. Add baby carrots, 1 Tablespoon minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt and bouillon cubes to crock pot.
7. Pour water into frying pan and loosen drippings. Pour all into crock pot.
Let it cook on high all day and Voila! You’ll have a tender Yankee Pot Roast for dinner that only took you 15 minutes to prepare. If you really want to wow your family, bake some homemade bread to go with it!
You’ll need:
1 loaf of Rhodes Frozen Bread Dough
1 Bread Pan
Pam Nonstick Spray
Plastic Wrap
Here’s how:
1. Spray pan generously with Pam.
2. Drop in frozen dough.
3. Cover with plastic wrap.
4. Let it defrost and rise on a warm countertop all day.
5. 30 Minutes prior to dinner time, pop the loaf in the oven to bake as directed.
Having a busy life and being on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t feed your family great, homemade meals any day of the week. Crock pots are amazing appliances that are easy to use and, thanks to the folks at Reynolds and their Slow Cooker Liners, easy to clean up! This meal is guaranteed to nourish (and wow) your family while still leaving time for you both before the meal (when you’d usually be running around the kitchen slamming cupboard doors wondering if you can get away with Mac & Cheese again) and after the meal (when you’d usually spend an hour or so cleaning up and scrubbing pots).
