If you want to have a successful yard sale and earn $500 or more, then you will want to consider timing. The right timing of your sale can really mean the difference between doing okay at the sale and really cleaning out your stash for fun and profit. Here is some advice about yard sale timing.
As I mentioned yesterday, having a sale as early as possible in the spring is the goal. This way, you not only get a jump on the competition, but you’ll have plenty of eager shoppers. Make sure to choose a day that is bright and clear. A little chill to the air is okay, but you definitely don’t want winter weather or wind.
While Saturdays in the spring, summer and beginning of the fall are prime time for yard sales you can also experiment with Fridays. Yes, Fridays aren’t too convenient for working families, but if you can take the day off to hold your sale one day early, you’ll do well. Start the sale early, about 7 am, so you can catch shoppers who will stop on before work. You’ll be the first stop for shoppers. You can still hold a second day of the sale on Saturday.
Another great time to hold a yard sale is during a holiday weekend. While it is true some shoppers may be away, there will be plenty of shoppers that are still around looking for something to do. You may even pick up some traffic from people visiting your area, especially if you have any fun places to see nearby. We’ve done some of our best profits during memorial day weekend. Consider having your sale for more than one day. People traveling home will have an opportunity to stop at your sale.
Have a great sale!
