Yoga DVD Review

One convenient and inexpensive way to do yoga is through a DVD at home. Wear comfortable clothes, have a water bottle handy and you are just about ready to go. I like to use a yoga mat to help keep my feet from sliding during a pose. You can also get by using a towel on your carpet if you don’t have a mat. Bare feet generally work best for using a mat or towel.

My first yoga DVD experience was a series called Yoga Zone. It was very relaxing and I caught on really quickly to the poses. However, I was excited when I got a new yoga DVD as a gift last year. It was time for me to try something new! I didn’t realize that something new would mean something much more challenging.

The DVD is called Jillian Michaels: Yoga Meltdown (2010). The name should have tipped me off that this was going to be a more serious and sweaty yoga workout. The DVD provides two workouts that are about thirty minutes each. The second workout is more challenging than the first, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the first one. Both workouts provide a warm-up and cool-down.

I like how each of the workouts is thirty minutes. It is long enough to burn some calories, but not too long that it completely wears you out. I also liked that there are two workouts on the DVD so you are not limited to doing the same one over and over.

If you have been doing a basic, beginner DVD for a few years like I had, then I definitely recommend this DVD. It is a more challenging workout that will definitely help you burn calories. Even if you have some yoga background this DVD could be the next step for you. However if you are a beginner I would suggest a less intense workout to familiarize yourself with yoga. Beginner workouts are a great way to learn breathing techniques, meditation and poses.
