Yoga for Strength Training

When most people think about strength training, weights are the first physical activity that comes to mind. Yoga is an effective tool for people interested in making the muscles stronger and more toned. Many people combine yoga with weight training for an effective exercise regimen.

While strength training uses weights to build muscle, yoga uses your body’s own natural resistance for strengthening the muscles. This requires very little equipment as opposed to weight training, which is a significant investment if you are building a home gym.

Yoga is a convenient way to strengthen and tone the body. You can practice yoga anytime and anywhere. Practice at home, in a hotel when you are on vacation or traveling for work, when visiting at a relative’s house or anywhere else.

Practicing yoga to increase strength and tonality of the muscles doesn’t require a big investment. Yoga is significantly less expensive than a gym membership and you have the flexibility to practice at home when it is convenient for you.

Yoga works all the muscles of the body. When you are working out with weights, there is a tendency to train different groups of muscles. A good balanced yoga practice works all the muscles of the body for a balanced workout that helps to strengthen all the muscles of the body.

If you combine weight training and yoga, you are less likely to experience an injury. A regular yoga practice facilitates balance in the muscles and alignment of the body for increased muscle strength and better posture. Stretching of the muscles helps to keep the body in proper alignment, which prevents muscle strain and injury.

You can find DVDs online that are designed to help with strength training. As with weight training, building strength through yoga requires regular practice. Find a time and place that is convenient for you and stick with it.
