You And Me Against The World

Just the two of us against the world. As the days get shorter and dark comes earlier I always feel like we are cocooned from the world.

The colder weather and few hours of daylight means more time indoors. As much as I love warm weather I love fall and winter for the chance to stay inside and reconnect. Just the two of us.

There are many things about being a single parent that are hard, things that make you second guess yourself and your decisions. The one thing that makes it all worthwhile is the one on one time you have with your child.

As selfish and childish as it sounds, I like not having to share Hailey all the time. I love the times it’s just the two of us. In the winter cuddling up on the couch and watching a movie or reclining at opposite ends of the couch, sharing a blanket while we are both lost in the book we are reading.

Hailey’s childhood has passed so quickly and as much as I wish she could have known the stability of a traditional family, I am grateful for the extra time I’ve had with her. If I were still married I would not have been able to focus on Hailey as much as I have. I know this is good and bad but I hope it has been mostly good.

I think because of the amount of time we have spent alone together, we are closer. Hailey talks to me about things other kids don’t talk to their parents about, she tells me things, asks my opinion, and sometimes she even listens.

I’m grateful for my daughter and the bond we have. All the struggles I’ve gone through as a single parent have been worth it. My daughter is an amazing human being, I’m so glad that I have had the opportunity to really get to know her and spend time with her. Yes, it would have been easier if I hadn’t gotten divorced but then we would both be different people than we are right now so I wouldn’t change a thing.
