You Can Have a Successful Fitness Routine

It can feel like a successful fitness routine is impossible. But I think many times that’s because we are looking for instant results. We don’t see the importance of building up our routine, learning how to be consistent and the hard work it takes to get where we want to be.

Too often we have the end result in mind. We are fixated on losing a certain number of pounds, fitting into that dress, or being ready for the summer season.

What we have to focus on is the here and now.

A routine is something you do without even thinking about it. Fitness doesn’t start off that way. In fact, for most of us it feels more like a chore than anything else. But as you exercise on a daily basis (or whatever schedule you develop), it becomes not only easier but more natural.

It is no longer a question as to whether or not you will do it…you just do. Just as you would brush your teeth without thinking about it, you will put forth the effort to exercise. It really does happen this way, believe me.

But that takes time. It won’t happen after the third time you have exercised and it may not even happen after the 20th time. It usually takes at least a solid month of consistent exercising for it to become part of our routine.

Consistency is the other factor. You can’t be successful in your fitness routine without being consistent. That means putting together a workable schedule. Don’t try to squeeze in exercise. Make it part of your day.

Which days work best? What time of the day works best? Put in place a consistent schedule you can stick to.

Finally, recognize that to get where you want to be, you will have to work hard. There is just no other way around it. Fitness is hard work. It doesn’t come easy. If you can accept and embrace that, it will improve your chance at success.
