You Have to Have Spunk to Homeschool

You have to have spunk to homeschool, and I have had that for the last two years in the form of Spunky of the Spunkyhomeschool blog. I have recently discovered, however, that I will have to provide my own spunk.

Spunky said “See Ya Round” on Tuesday, December 5, 2006. While she is not “dying, getting a divorce or God forbid putting (her) children in public school”, she is also not blogging via the Spunkyhomeschool blog anymore. It is somewhat ironic that she was nominated as a finalist in the Weblog Awards 2006 for best education blog, but even that distinction did not sway her decision to end her homeschool blog.

From her very first post, it was obvious that Spunky had enough spunk to keep hundreds and even thousands of homeschooled sustained and entertained. Her very first duty as a homeschool blogger was to berate John Kerry for his stand on issues such as abortion, and taxes. This homeschooler actually had an opinion on subjects outside of homeschooling. From the first day, her blog was a refreshing addition to any homeschooling parents reading list.

Over the last two years, Spunky has touched on many subjects that affect homeschoolers and human beings as a whole. She has met with senators to discuss educational issues, discussed state testing with her audience, and maintained a radio presence has well. While many homeschoolers are taken aback by her abrupt decision to stop blogging about homeschooling, there have been clues to her winding down her public activities. On Friday March 24, 2006, Spunky announced her resignation from her position as contributing writer at The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.

I suspect that we will see Spunky again. My guess is that other opportunities are knocking and she is answering. While I enjoyed reading her blog over the last two years, as well as benefiting from the fuel she supplied to my own blog, I wish her well in future endeavors. So, until Spunky makes her debut into her next public forum, I have to say, “See Ya Round” Spunky!
