You Know Your Kid is the BOSS When…

Raising a child is a difficult job. Raising a special needs child, especially one with behavior problems, is an even greater challenge. We make a lot of mistakes as parents, but it’s good to relax and laugh at ourselves once in a while. We all can relate to things occasionally getting WAY out of control. (More than occasionally?) Anyway, just for fun and a bit of humor, I’ve written the following:

You know your kid is the BOSS when…

1. He tells you what you’re making for dinner tonight.

2. She’s the one pushing the shopping cart while you sprint to keep up.

3. Your purse and wallet are his favorite toys.

4. When you say, “This is your LAST warning,” it means there’ll be eight more.

5. The “Time Out” stool comes equipped with a big screen TV, and surround-sound speakers.

6. The hyperactivity medication on the counter is yours.

7. She frequently says, “Nope. You didn’t say please.”

8. The tattoo on your arm is her latest work of art.

9. He gets magazines, truffles, and raspberry slush on the potty.

10. It’s the Elmo band-aids, or else.

11. He calls you “Lady,” and his dad, “Hey you.”

12. She has redecorated the living room to reflect her cubism phase.

13. You need permission to take a shower.

14. You call bananas “bugga boos” and apples “pah pahs,” because that’s what HE calls them.

15. The sign on her bedroom door says, “Beware of Child.”

16. Your great dane sits, stays, and rolls over only for HER.

17. The huge shed in your back yard is now his toy box.

18. If you’re really good, she’ll let you have the garage door opener.

19. He selects the bedtime stories. All 39 of them.

20. If a visitor asks, “Is your Mom or Dad home?” she replies, “Does it matter?”

I think humor is a great coping mechanism. In a future blog, I’ll share my most embarrassing parental moment. Keep up the good work!
