Since it’s a new year and most of us have resolved to take better care of ourselves, me included, I thought I would review some of Dr. Oz’s books.
You On A Diet is a great book. We all know that in order to lose weight we need to eat fewer calories and move more, sounds simple but we know the reality.
This book will not only give you tips to get in the best shape you can, it explains why you gain weight and how to change that. The first thing that caught my attention about this book is that it’s not a diet book. Diets fail because no one can maintain them indefinitely.
You On A Diet is packed full of tips, recipes and information about why we eat and what happens to our food once it passes our lips.
Many of the things in this book you’ve heard before but the way this is written, like a friend talking to you, makes them easier to hear.
Not only will you find a hundred new recipes and an equipment free exercise workout, you just might learn why it is you are eating that donut in the first place.
The whole premise behind this book is that if we really understand the how and why of our eating habits we can change them. Not by dieting and self deprivation but by retraining ourselves and our bodies to eat better and be more active.
One of the best tips in the book is the You turn. How many times have you tried to diet and exercise and failed, so you give up? Your diet is going so well but someone brought yummy red velvet cupcakes to work. Since you ate the cupcake your diet is blown so you might as well have the cheeseburger for lunch, and it’s a downhill slide from there.
Enter the You turn. The doctors know you are going to make mistakes, forgive yourself and make a You Turn instead of beating yourself up about it.
This book is excellent not only for the help you will get but from the understanding of how your body works that you will gain.
All of this information is given in a way that doesn’t make you feel bad for failing at dieting in the past. Pick it up, you will be glad you did.
