Young Women: Christmas and Personal Progress

The holidays are coming up. You can easily plan activities that fit in with the young women’s Personal Progress and Christmas. Here are four uplifting activities that will help with Personal Progress and focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

1) You can have a night in which you view artwork that depicts the Nativity and life of Christ. As you view the artwork, you may also want to read scriptures that pertain to parts of Christ’s life. You may also listen or sing along to Handel’s Messiah. At the end of the activity you may want to leave a short time open to bear testimonies. This is a great activity to really help the girls feel the spirit. This could be a community outreach activity as well.

2) The holidays are a great time to offer service. You could have the girls visit a nursing home to give service in good works. Another service project is to offer babysitting to the members of the ward so that they can complete Christmas shopping. Plan one night in which the parents could go out and shop while the girls play games and watch the children.

3) Plan activities that allow the girls to learn a homemaking skill, such as sewing or baking. They can use the things that they make as gifts over the holidays. Additionally you may make items that can be donated to a homeless shelter or to a children’s hospital.

4) You can have the girls each write down positive qualities about each of the other girls in the ward. This fulfills requirement seven under Individual Worth. You can read the scriptures together. As leaders take the lists home, compile them, and then print them on nice paper for each girl to have. This would make a meaningful Christmas gift for each girl that could encourage her throughout the year.
