Young Women: Standing for Truth and Righteousness

The motto for the Young Women organization is “Stand for Truth and Righteousness.” This is a great motto for anyone. It can be easily applied to the daily lives of each young woman. It is important to talk to the young women about what it means.

As you discuss what it means to stand for truth and righteousness you may talk about the big moments when you may be called to make a stand. The girls may be called on to defend the church. They may also be called to stand up for the standards of the church. It may be that they be called on to make the decision to leave a party because there is alcohol at it.

It is also important to discuss the little ways that each girl can stand for truth and righteousness. The little ways include how you treat others and the small decisions to do what is right, even when no one is looking. The small decisions and personal integrity are the things, which allow each girl to have the light of Christ. Often investigators are drawn to the church because of the happiness they see in the members of the church.

Standing for truth and righteousness is the same as letting your light shine before men (Matthew 5:16). The small acts of kindness can make as much of a difference as the big stands that each girl must make. You may want to focus on the small ways that each girl is making a stand. As you have this discussion you may also want to discuss parts of Alma 5.

It is important to talk about building your testimony through personal prayer and scripture study. It is also important to be able to share your testimony with others. As each girl lives the standards she is demonstrating her testimony to those around her. Others around her may ask questions, which will give her a chance to share her testimony with them.
