Young Women: “You Have a Noble Birthright”

At the Young Women’s session of General Conference, Julie B. Beck spoke about patriarchal blessings. Her talk was titled, “You Have A Noble Birthright.” Sister Beck spoke about the light that she has seen in the faces of the young women as she has traveled the world. She spoke about the critical time of life that each young woman is facing. She said:

“You are in a season of your life when you are making some of your most important decisions. Because you are being bombarded with so many incorrect messages about who you are, you need some additional guidance. You can learn more about your life and mission on earth and the light that is in you by preparing to receive and then studying your patriarchal blessing.

You are never too young to start learning about patriarchal blessings. I am glad I received my blessing before I was too heavily influenced by the confusing and incorrect messages in the world. I came away from that experience with the comforting assurance that the Lord loved me and knew me, and from that day onward I began to think more often in terms of eternity than popularity.”

Sister Beck went on to explain the benefits of receiving a patriarchal blessing. She also spoke about how it was important to pray and make decisions based on the answers that you received from the Holy Ghost. This was an excellent talk that really explained the purpose of a patriarchal blessing.

It would be a good idea to discuss this article with your children, if they are considering that it is time for them to receive their patriarchal blessing. A patriarchal blessing can be a great comfort and a guide throughout your life. I have felt blessed as I have read mine at times when I have needed guidance and comfort. I am grateful that I received it while I was in Young Women’s because it really did help me while I was in college. It is a personal decision as to when the time is right to receive one. And it should be one that is made with prayer.
