Sometimes, the books that contain very important information are not always the latest best-sellers. Recently, I learned about a personal finance book called “Your Money or Your Life” that has been around for quite some time. The book is still regarded as a very important piece of personal finance literature, so I decided to find out why.
“Your Money or Your Life” is based upon the life experiences of its two authors, Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. The book contains a nine-step approach that is designed to help readers achieve financial independence. The nine steps to financial independence involve a lot more than adjusting budgets and creating good financial habits, though. The approach contained in “Your Money or Your Life” examines personal finance on an even deeper level, challenging readers to rethink not only their relationship with money, but their relationships with themselves, their families, and the planet.
The idea of treating one’s finances as part of the larger picture of one’s life is appealing to me. I enjoy reading books that make me think, and this book certainly does do that much to my delight. Definitely be prepared to question many things about your way of living if you choose to read this book, as it contains ways of thinking that are different from the things that many of us were taught about work, life, and money.
Since I just started reading this book, I can not say whether the nine steps will help me to improve my financial situation. The steps are things that must be practiced consistently over a period of time before the results can be realized. I can say, however, that after reading the book I am filled with hope instead of despair, even after having to question so many of the things that I have been taught about money.
Have any of you read “Your Money or Your Life”? How did it change your life?
