High blood pressure is something that tends to run in families. Genealogists who are putting together a medical family tree should make note of their relatives and ancestors who had high blood pressure, because it could indicate that you, or you children, could be at risk of developing it too. There have been many things that have been pointed out as the reason why a person has high blood pressure. A study shows that one reason you have high blood pressure is because of your mother.
It may sound like a joke, at first. If you and your mother don’t get along very well, then this contentious relationship is likely to cause stress for both of the people involved. Stress is one of the many factors that can cause high blood pressure. I bet there are a lot of people who blame their high blood pressure on the family member who frequently makes them angry, frustrated, or extremely worried. However, this is not the only reason why your mother may have caused your high blood pressure.
There are a lot of things that can cause a person to have high blood pressure. Stress is one of those things, but your risk can also increase if your family has a history of high blood pressure. Other factors come from lifestyle choices, such as how much salt is in your diet, how much alcohol you consume, and if you are a smoker. Being overweight or obese can also cause high blood pressure, and so can the presence of certain diseases or disorders. Those who do not get much exercise also run the risk of having high blood pressure.
A study done by a group of researchers who were from the United States, China, and Austria found that there is a specific genetic mutation that contributes to the development of hypertension, or high blood pressure. They analyzed the DNA of a five generation family in China, and found that many of the people in that family who had high blood pressure were descendants of the same female ancestor.
The researchers believe that a mitochondrial DNA mutation is responsible for the high blood pressure that some people have. Mitochondrial DNA can only be passed down from female members of a family. Therefore, you could say that your mother is part of the reason why you have high blood pressure, genetically speaking. Obviously, there are other factors that influence blood pressure that can contribute as well.
