Your Post Partum Wardrobe

Don’t expect to fit right back into your clothes after the baby is born. Unless you are one of those rare people, nothing will fit just after baby arrives. This is something people don’t tell you. With my first baby, I was shocked at the changes in my body and how hard it was to recover my shape.

I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on clothing that I hoped wouldn’t last long. I had to get creative to find things to wear without spending a lot. I started in my husband’s closet. I found a few shirts and sweaters that fit well and looked nice.

You will need to spend some money on a few pairs of pants. I bought drawstring pants for after this baby. Your waist will be getting smaller. Comfortable pants with a draw string can be adjusted as you get smaller. This also saves money since you won’t have to buy new pants every time you drop a size. Wait until you drop a few sizes to splurge on nicer clothes.

You may feel self conscious about the way you look. Issues related to body image are very common after the birth of a baby. You aren’t alone. We all feel this way. When you are choosing clothes, there are things you can do to look thinner. Darker colors, such as black or navy, have a slimming effect. Outfits in all one color have the same effect. A navy blue suit or black dress is a good choice if you have an event to attend after the baby is born.

One thing I did spend a bit of money on was nursing shirts. I got a few to help me feel more comfortable breastfeeding in public. It takes a while to get the hang of this art and nursing shirts made me feel more covered during the process. You can find these in maternity shops and online. You are more likely to find a good deal on the Internet.

I found great deals on nursing pajamas on ebay. Be careful when you are bidding. I looked for new with tags in the description. If you don’t mind used, they are even cheaper. I was a bit picky and wanted only new. I was still able to save compared to the prices in the maternity shops near me. An alternative to nursing pajamas is a pair of boxers with a T shirt. A night gown will be difficult during night feedings.
