Reusing is a great way to be frugal and green at the same time. Here in the Frugal Living Blog and the Reuse Category in this blog, we have found many ways to reuse all sorts of things from tennis balls to sawdust. But now, one magazine is asking for your ideas, and they are willing to pay $100 for them.
Frugal people are so clever at reusing things. I think of one friend of mine who creates amazing furniture out of discards, using them in unique ways. Almost anything can be reused, even things we might normally think of as garbage.
Take for example the recent editor’s note in the magazine, Living the Country Life. In it, the editor tells of how her husband noticed a bunch of old detergent drums that someone had just sitting there on a property. The owner of the property owned a car wash, so he had a lot of these detergent drums lying around. The husband saw them as an opportunity. He took them home, cut off the tops, inserted metal grates and turned them into feeders for sheep. The top holds hay and the bottom corn. Now that is ingenuity.
If you have any great reuse ideas that might not have been seen before, the magazine wants them, especially if you have some photos or pictures to go with your reuse project. The magazine is willing to pay you $100 if they publish your idea. Frugal people invent great things all of the time, so take advantage of what you see around you.
The next time you are out walking, driving or even visiting a friend or neighbor, take a look at what might be discarded around you and think of a way to reuse it. Or make a visit to your local town dump for inspiration and to rescue something that can be made into something else.
To submit your ideas, send an e-mail to the editor of Living the Country Life at betsy@livingthecountrylife.com.
