Do you have a special song that you shared with your baby? There are certain songs that are special to me for each of my children. These are the songs that I sang over and over again to each of them, to sooth them, to make them laugh or just to dance around with them as infants in my arms.
I think each baby should share a special song with mom or dad. My oldest, at seven, still loves to hear about his special songs and the lyrics for those songs that I sang to him when he was a baby. If couples, married or dating, can share a special song, why not babies and mommies or babies and daddies? The bond between a child and a parent is one of the strongest relationships out there.
For my oldest son, there were two songs that I especially associate with that time of infant-hood with him. The first is the song that Sleeping Beauty sings to her prince in the forest. The lyrics start, “I know you, you walked with me once upon a dream…” He seemed to especially love listening to that song, and it made sense, since I felt as though I knew him before he was even born and dreamed about what parenthood might be like.
The other song was “Baa Baa Black Sheep.” For whatever reason, he wanted to listen to me sing this song over and over again until I could do it while ironing, making dinner and even carrying on a conversation with someone else. I would hear the request “again!” with a mixture of bewilderment that he wanted to hear it for the 457th time, joy at being able to make him so happy and a bit of dread and actually having to sing it again.
Do you have any special songs or lyrics that you sing to or with your baby?
