My life has gone far from how I planned as a little girl. I always dreamed I’d marry a handsome man who was going to love and take care of our little family forever. Divorce was never in the cards. No one ever gets married thinking they’ll end up divorced, but it happens to a fair number of us regardless of what we planned. The night my ex-husband left I literally thought my life was over. I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else. I had a child with this man. I didn’t know how I could possibly survive all of the challenges of a divorce. It wasn’t what I expected in my life, but life rarely turns out how we planned it so we have to learn to improvise sometimes.
While I thought my life ended with my divorce, it was really just beginning. That chapter of my life ended, but another one, a much happier one, was just beginning. I had the chance to rewrite my story. As much as I would like change the events of the past, I couldn’t, but I could choose where to go from here. I had a world of possibilities at my fingertips. I had no idea what amazing things lay in store for me, but I did know that I was going to make sure this chapter was far better than the last one. I was taking control of my story. I didn’t want it to end with my divorce. I wanted my story to have a much happier ending.
I enrolled in a new university and started working hard to accomplish my goals. I may not have had the marriage I had always dreamed of, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me from having the life I’d always wanted. I found that as I worked hard on accomplishing those goals other things started to fall into place. My story is far from over. I know I have amazing things in store for me, and so do you.
