One of the great things about the church is the automatic built in support system that it provides members. It is very common for families to move far away to find a good job. When this happens it may feel that the support system around you is completely gone. However I’ve found that the ward family is quick to step up and fill in when you are facing a crisis.
You may be in a ward that does not feel as warm and as inviting as you would like, but you should give it some time. Additionally you should try reaching out and befriending others. You may not become really close with everyone in the ward, but most people will find a way to help when you need it the most. It is important to be able to help those around you as well.
Often people in the ward may be willing to help, but may not be sure on how to help. This is especially true in difficult situations. If you need help, ask for it. You can ask your visiting teachers or talk directly to your Relief Society president. Additionally you may just need to ask your friends if they can help out. Sometimes those that are closest to you may recognize your need and step in right away. Other times you may need to ask for specific things.
Building friendships within the ward is a great way to build a support system. You can make friends by attending ward activities. Serving others is another great way to reach out to those around you. Although it can be difficult being friendly with new ward members can really help them feel comfortable and help you to make new friends. When someone first moves into the ward, this is often the time that she feels the most vulnerable. You can counteract that feeling and help create a closer ward by reaching out each week
