“You’re My Little Love Bug” by Heidi R. Weimer

You’re my little love bug/My cuddly kangaroo/My funny bunny/Sweet as honey/All of this is true!

When I was younger, my grandmother used to call me Love Bug. Well, I found this book called “You’re My Little Love Bug” while shopping at a local wholesale club one day. I was just looking for some board books for my daughter because she had chewed through some of her other ones. Teething is wonderful, isn’t it? Anyway, when I showed it to my mother, she immediately decided that she had to buy it for my daughter.

“You’re My Little Love Bug” is all about the different ways a parent, grandparent, or whomever can express their love for a child. From cuddly animals to sweet foods, from lovey nicknames to nonsense words, this book is a cute, sweet, all-around feel-good book to read to your child. The illustrations are lively, bright, and colorful and go perfectly with the written words. The rhymes just help it to sound all the more charming. A feature that might easily be missed is the picture pocket. If you turn to the last page, there is a little pocket where you can insert a picture of your little love bug! There is a heart that is cut out through every page so that when you are reading the book together, you can look at the picture of the child as well.

The great thing about this book for us personally is that it fits the relationship between my mother and my daughter perfectly, just as it would have for my grandmother and me. Whenever my mom enters the living room, my daughter will say, “Nana, I want book,” and pick it up to bring it to her. She loves the blinking lights and the little tune that goes along when you open the book. Most of all, I think, she loves sitting in her Nana’s lap with a good book and lots of love! It is no surprise that this is now my daughter’s favorite book.

“You’re My Little Love Bug” is available from Amazon and Candy Cane Press.
